Where do I start, Football aficionados? I won’t recap everything naturally, but just a couple things that stood out. One thing I always remind myself of is that in college there is no preseason. No joint team practices. Which I think would serve the sport well. A non-conference opponent. A team you likely wouldn’t play unless it’s the playoff or a bowl game. You can only get some much done versus your own guys.
While several teams were impressive obviously we have to keep it in perspective. Some were overwhelming their opposition. Others though were battling for survival in week 1.
Taking all that into account, Indiana looked solid and will possibly continue being a major player to stay. Much respect to TCU-transfer QB Josh Hoover with a bloody nose in the 2nd quarter and finishing the drive with a touchdown pass. I’ll always remember two-time Super Bowl-winning, HOF Coach Bill Parcells saying the quarterback’s main job is getting his offense into the endzone. Sure there’s a lot to it, but ultimately, yes the best ones do just that consistently and in the game’s critical moments.

Obviously LSU put the country on notice that they will be tough opponent for whoever they face. Sam Leavitt is a competitor, but he needs to protect himself when he takes off. There were others like Notre Dame, Ole Miss beat an always challenging Louisville, Penn St, Georgia.. Hey this list is always long after weeks 0 and 1.
Programs adapt to the portal or not at their own peril. Coaching and culture is essential, but you need the horses to run the race. Clemson has about 10 transfers compared to LSU’s 48 approx. That’s huge difference in 18- and 19-yr olds going against 21- and 22-yr olds who have a lot more all around experience. We have to adapt to the times. I heard a the telecast that Wisconsin head coach, Luke Fickell, was opposed to the portal, but then changed. This is the business they are in. Like it or not.
I was pleasantly surprised to see Florida State run the ball well against SMU. But Ashton Daniels had a difficult time passing the ball. Only 125 yds in that game. They are going to need way more production from a guy on his 3rd team. The heat of impatience is rising quickly in Tallahassee.
Rutgers with a humiliating loss to UMass doesn’t bode well for the Scarlet knights’ season, but.. it is early. Then there’s the outright travesty that occurred in Ann Arbor. I’ll just say the integrity of the game can never be compromised. If influential people decide to change things up at a moment’s notice - what are we doing?

Victory Formation: One thing I always enjoyed as a team, staff or even friends catching a game is going somewhere cool to eat and have a drink. For me it’s usually a burger and and a beer or an Old Fashioned. The reminiscing of the game, checking scores.. ‘hey, how did our opponent for next week do?’ It’s always been an experience. Faith, Family/Friends, Football, Fun..
